Backfills older Python Weekly excerpts that still carry the Beehiiv
inline-CSS leak and refreshes the brand mark so it reads correctly on
every surface.

Excerpt cleanup

  • New migration 008 strips the leading CSS block through the first
    '}' on every python-weekly row whose excerpt matches the known leak
    pattern ('p span[style*="font-size"]' + 'line-height: 1.6'),
    then mirrors the cleaned text into entries_fts so search snippets
    stop surfacing it too.
  • Inline CSS avoided in the SQL because the migration splitter breaks
    on bare semicolons; patterns reference char(125) for '}'.
  • tests/test_migration_008.py covers:
    • excerpt strip
    • FTS mirror
    • other sources left alone
    • clean python-weekly rows left alone
    • idempotency

Brand mark

  • Header logo is now a rounded square (0.875rem) with a baked warm
    plate (#f6f1e8) instead of a circular badge with a border. Both
    the image and the plate background render the same on light and
    dark themes; no per-theme overrides needed.
  • .tl-systembar__brand-mark-image uses object-fit: contain so the
    square mark is never clipped to a circle, with border-radius
    inherited from the wrapper.

PWA / favicon

  • apple-touch-icon.png, icon-192.png, icon-512.png, favicon.ico all
    bake the warm plate using magick (no longer ffmpeg pad, which left
    the padded region transparent). The PWA color type is now opaque
    RGB so launchers never bleed the surface color through.
  • Header WebP assets (apple-touch-icon.webp, brand-mark.webp) stay
    transparent; the CSS plate shows through them.
  • service-worker.js CACHE_VERSION '3' -> '4'.
  • scripts/build_icons.sh requires magick in addition to ffmpeg/cwebp.

Tests

  • tests/test_icon_assets.py adds:
    • stdlib-only PNG first-pixel decoder
    • warm-plate pixel assertion for apple-touch-icon/icon-192/icon-512
    • opaque color-type assertion (RGB or RGBA)
    • favicon ICO first-pixel warm-plate check via magick
  • tests/test_build_icons_script.py locks the new tool requirement
    (magick), the plate_render helper, and the warm plate string.
  • tests/test_pwa.py tracks the new CACHE_VERSION.
  • tests/test_shell.py renames the brand-mark test to
    test_brand_mark_renders_rounded_square and drops the circular /
    border assertions.

Docs

  • docs/RULES.md / docs/architecture.md: brand mark is now a
    rounded-square with a baked warm plate.
  • docs/operations.md: service worker cache bumps to v4; PWA assets
    documented as baked with warm plate.

Verification

  • bash scripts/build_icons.sh rebuilds every derivative with the
    baked plate.
  • magick -format '%[pixel:p{0,0}]' -> srgb(246,241,232).
  • npm run build:css clean.
  • uv run pytest tests/ -q -> 715 passed (was 704).
  • uv run ruff check -> clean.
  • uv run python scripts/audit_sources.py -> 300 active, no issues.
